On the afternoon of October 20, Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, met in Changsha with Yok Mu-ming, former president of the pro-unification New Party of Taiwan, and other guest representatives. They came to attend the 15th Hunan-Taiwan Cooperation Conference on Economy, Trade & Culture and the 1st Cross-Strait Industrial Cooperation Yuelu Mountain Forum.

Long Mingbiao, deputy director of the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council; Wu Lan, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee; He Baoxiang, vice governor; Li Zhenghong, chairman of the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland; and, Deng Qunce, secretary general of the People’s Government of Hunan Province, attended.

Governor Mao welcomed the guests and introduced the current development trend of Hunan Province and the situation of exchanges and cooperation between Hunan and Taiwan to them. He noted that Hunan and Taiwan have a long history of exchanges, especially since the first Hunan-Taiwan Cooperation Conference on Economy, Trade & Culture held in 2005. The two places have continuously deepened collaboration in the fields of economy and trade, culture, media, and tourism, and people-to-people exchanges have become increasingly close. Up to now, there are nearly 600 Taiwan-funded enterprises in Hunan, and a total of 2925 Taiwan-funded projects have been approved, with a registered capital of 11.14 billion USD. A number of Taiwan-funded enterprises are developing well in Hunan, and Taiwan is the second-largest source of foreign investment in Hunan.

He stated that Hunan is now actively seizing the major historic opportunities brought by President Xi Jinping’s inspection tour to Hunan and the promotion of high-quality development in central China in the new era, and vigorously implementing the Three Highlands and Four New Missions Strategy. The provincial industrial structure is continuously optimized, and the quality and efficiency are significantly improved. He expected the Hunan-Taiwan cooperation conference to play the role of a bridge, and take the approval of the establishment of the fifth Cross-Straits Industrial Cooperation Zone in Hunan as an opportunity, to continuously deepen the industrial development, cultural exchanges, and tourism cooperation between Hunan and Taiwan, and enhance the ties of kinship and well-being of Taiwan compatriots. Hunan will continue to optimize the business environment and warmly welcome Taiwan enterprises and talents to invest in Hunan, he added.

Chairman Yok remarked that Hunan has beautiful mountains and pristine waters, outstanding people, profound cultural heritage, and sound economic and social development momentum. The Taiwan enterprises are very optimistic about Hunan’s advancement. He hoped that the Hunan-Taiwan cooperation conference will better play its role as a platform in deepening economic and trade cooperation and intensifying personnel exchanges, to further promote cross-Strait cultural harmony, economic integration, and spiritual cohesion; reach more consensus; and, achieve mutual benefits, win-win results, and common development.
