On March 21, the Hunan Construction Engineering Group Ltd. (HNCEG) in China and the Rajshahi Water Supply & Sewerage Authority (Rajshahi WASA) in Bangladesh formally signed a commercial contract for the Rajshahi WASA Surface Water Treatment Plant Project. The signing ceremony was carried out through video connection. The representatives of Bangladesh, the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh, and Hunan Province were present via video link in Dhaka, the Embassy in Bangladesh, and Changsha respectively. Bangladesh Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Md Tajul Islam and Hunan Vice Governor Chen Fei attended.
The Rajshahi WASA Surface Water Treatment Plant Project has been included in the list of key projects of the Belt and Road Initiative and ranked first in the current list of Bangladeshi national livelihood projects. It is also the largest preferential export buyer's credit project undertaken by Hunan Province.
The EPC contract value of the project is 325 million USD. The main construction content is the water intake, water treatment plant, double ductile iron pipe water mains, booster pump station and primary and secondary water distribution network. The project construction period is 48 months. Its completion will effectively solve the domestic and industrial water problems in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, and improve the local infrastructure and the local people's livelihood.
HNCEG promised to assign the most professional management team to implement this project, to ensure high-quality delivery to the Bangladeshi side on schedule. It will take this project as an opportunity to seek more opportunities to serve the development of Bangladesh's economic and social undertakings.
