A launching ceremony of Hunan-Guangdong-Africa Rail-Sea Express Train was held at the Zhuzhou CRRC Logistics Base on September 15, 2021. About 1,935 tons of grains provided by the Chinese government to assist Kenya and other African countries will be transported from Zhuzhou to Nansha Port via rail, and then shipped to Mombasa Port in Kenya. The train is expected to arrive at Mombasa Port on October 15. It marks that Hunan has established a multimodal transport channel combining rail freight, sea transport, and inland logistics in foreign countries. A new pattern featuring integration of “industry, industrial parks, ports, channels, and markets” is taking shape.
The China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited issued the combined transport B/L for the first train. Customs authority instructed enterprises to go through an integrated customs clearance process – conduct customs clearance in Zhuzhou and get release approval in Nansha. Pre-departure declaration and 24-hour appointment services were promoted.
This is a new end-to-end channel serving the whole logistics course. It links Hunan Province, surrounding economic hinterlands, and African countries, and will cover 11 hub ports in Africa, and 20 inland roads and railways in Africa in its first phase.

Compared with conventional logistics, the new channel can shorten the transport time from Hunan to East Africa by 10 days, and to West African base ports by 9 days. The whole-course transport cost can be cut by 3%.
In the future, the Hunan-Guangdong-Africa rail-sea combined transport channel will play a core role in Hunan’s international logistics system, and will become a key channel linking Hunan and even central China, with overseas destinations.
